RAISING AWARENESS

"Since informing the populace of a public concern is often regarded as the first step to changing how the institutions handle it, raising awareness is often the first activity any advocacy group engages in."

When we started the blog, we wanted to raise concern about what was happening in Manila or wherever that needed much attention that was related to art, fashion and anything in between what was found in common media. Anything that would draw inspiration.

And as we started to materialize into a store, we wanted to show people that there can be something different , retail does not have to be robotic or insitutionalized by a mall, that there is still freedom for creativity in spaces unfound.

So in ode to our beliefs and to everyone who has supported us for the past months, we give you the RAISE AWARENESS tee. Join us as we flip the bird to whatever's bugging anybody. Fuck 'em!

Tightening The Loose Ends

Wallet chains were popularized in the 1950s, as an essential accessory for bikers who wanted to keep from losing their wallets during rides. They later became a favorite of skaters, punks, grunge youth, and other subcultures in future generations.

Designed for both function and form, this leather wallet chain is made from genuine top grain black cow leather for a natural and organic feel. Each strap is hand-braided from six strands for added durability, has antique metal swivel dog hooks to attach to belt loop or wallet, and features a coque chinchilla feather and three loose strands (appx. 9" long) on one end.

Available in single-strap (17") and double-straps (16.5" and 18").

All in store at 7274 Malugay St. San Antonio Village ., Makati. Get them while their there!

Converse - Stick To Your Classic

It's not enough for legendary brandConverse to have the best selling and most classic sneaker sillhouette in the world. After They've tapped actors , rock - stars , artists and the masses to produce and support their all time classic , they're now venturing into music. They got artists to collaborate this time in a compilation album that gets 3 musicians to do a song to promote them in a track and compiled n a mixtape.

The newest song off the album, ‘All Summer,’ features Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino, Kid Cudi and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend.

It just goes to show i guess that classic always reigns over the trends. Basic is the obviously the simplest is the most relatable form of aesthetics and the best way to influence is to get the best people, to keep it simple for others to relate. In terms of style, simple and stealthy will always be reliable.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I stand on this opinion. Good Job Converse, here's to the Chuck Taylor

See behind the scenes footage here

Destroy Your Enemy; Have A Better Taste

To all the sneaker heads out there, I introduce to you Taka Hayashi;

A self taught painter / illustrator / graphic designer, Taka was born in Yokohama, Japan in 1971. He moved to the U.S. in 1981 and relocated himself in Santa Monica where the early 80’s Skateboarding scene had a huge impact on his life & art. I've been a fan of his since his first syndicate line with VANS dropped in '09. He proves that there can be a fusion with self - expression / personal style and design together with footwear that is classic to produce products that are just a little above your run - of - the - mill tounge and taste buds. And another thing, it's all self - taught and natural progression.

And from a designers perspective; his attention to detail is a bar to reach. Watch and learn.

Engineered Garments. Intelligent Style.

Cambric or chambray is a lightweight cotton weave used as fabric for lace and needle work. It is possibly named after Baptiste of Cambrai which is in France.. It's usually made with Egyptian or American cotton. in some cases polymer fibres can be added. Cambric is also used as a coating for professional playing cards, to protect them for longer and make them easier to handle.
Chambray is one of the most malleable and versatile fabrics that you can use. During the 1980's and 1990 it was an iconic casual wear. In America, it used as workman's shirts and the fabric is dyed in indigo blue and weaved with white cotton to make it sturdy hence it's iconic look and it's history of use.. Therefore there is that term ; "blue - collar". The chambray shirts used to be sold by brands such as Ralph Lauren and would retail to up to 270$.

This time Engineered Garments has used chambray. With contrasting dark stitching and black and red buttons. 2 button - fastening utility chest pockets, reinforced elbow stitch detail gusset hem side seams and button adjustable cuffs. Im really liking the new Brogue slip - ons as well., as i've been wearing Brogue boots for some time now, this is a fresh twist in design for a classic style.
The jacket is just an add - on to what could be a good outfit. It's a great use of fabric and heritage style.

Falling Asleep Beneath The Flowers

Complacency has gotten the hold of a modern filipino's mind - set. Steady to be in one place just one comfortable place. Would it be dangerous to say that we as people have decided to be poop? Back in the 80's it was the groovy hangover from the 70's eager to rid ourselves off that american colonialism, but never really shaking it - off completley. In the early 90's there was that striving to become fresh - young and ambitious for life but in a much more simpler realistic way ; with the emergence of movies like - The Ninja Kids, The Bagets and That's Entertainment storming it's way into pop culture. But nothing would be more powerful an influence to complacency or evidence than the noon - time shows. Eat Bulaga was a major contributor and also the likes of ASAP and i forgot the many many names other shows had. Fast - forward to 2010 and it's now all about changing the government and WOWOWEE. It seems like from the hungry and ambitious decades to the eager yearning of a new - filipino., We've been forced with the notion that to be succesfull, you have to be famous.

We as a people have been brough up to just follow the command. If you're not famous , you can't make it. If your not famous, you should just follow orders. We've forgotten that there are shit - loads of people here with talent , charisma , natural - drive and know - how to beat any person or the person next to him / her. It seems we haven't shaken off imperialism and colonialism in that sense 'cause we still have that "slave" mentallity and that crab mentallity.

What is the result of all this complacency ; you got people living without even finding - out that they have potential or you have people full of potential but never really expanding their mind - set and just sitting down on their asses until their brains plop under their butts and they fart it out. And also , we have people who have forgotten the luxury of appreciating the fine details. Quality now in every context has decreased. because of this slave mentallity.

I guess what im saying is, that you have to stop waiting for orders and get yourself to order yourself around. Maybe in that sense, we can create sub-cultures from that energy of initiative, develop a better eye and appreciation for things. I guess what im saying is if you really are alive , then LIVE it. Maybe when that happens there will be more opportunities for everybody and our country would stop being and feeling so poor.

THERE GOES A HERO.

KAWS Museum Exhibit Opening from Paper Fortress on Vimeo.

Every decade there comes an artist who stands out amongst the crowd. In my opinion, there would be a handfull per decade. But very rarely does the light shine upon one so often and so bright .. There was , Dali , Warhol , Koons , Hirst? - - that it makes you think... this is the one. That artist in that moment, deserves that much light upon them. The reason for this will always remain a mystery and i would never want to know. This preserves the awe factor and the magic that is what is blessing my eyes.

I would always want to become an artist. Prolific, free ,proud , enigmatic, marketable, never hungry, never stopping, always responsible for your work. Is it Warhol that said? I think it's about time artists, don't starve or become hungry. I would like to become that kind of artist.

Well in this train of thought, Here's KAWS in his exhibit opening. In this decade, for me...There is no light brighter shined upon than there is on KAWS. I'm not complaining. - - "There goes my hero, watch as he goes. He's ordinary."
