Nike To The Future

In relation to my recent obsession with Back To The Future, Nike recently filed a patent for self-lacing kicks.

“the automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper.”

Come on Nike, you know I wanted the HOVERBOARD, not the damn shoes.

Karim Zaouai's Ferrowatch

Welcome to Back To The Future.

This mouthwatering timepiece by Karim Zaouai takes the relationship of science and art to the next step. Ferroliquid, a magnetically sensitive chemical, is sealed between the glass face and the mechanism of magnets, keeping the liquid suspended in time (what a pun, this pun). The charges from the inner magnets manipulate the liquid.

Hit the jump to see it in action.

Banksy In His Own Words

Nick Francis from The Sun scores the once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet the elusive graffiti artist we have all learned to love: Banksy.

"I STARTED painting graffiti when I was about 14 or so, and people always ask, yer know, what makes you do it?

"But the question was always really, why would you not do it?"
These are the words of one of the world's most famous artists, and most elusive characters.
Bristol-born Banksy is hugely popular worldwide, his guerilla-style graffiti his calling card.
Yet for 18 years he has succeeded where The Stig failed - and kept his identity totally secret.
Who is he? That's the question on the lips of everyone from trendy youngsters to the snobbish art world elite.
For the first time ever, the street artist has spoken at length about his amazing rise from a spray-can-toting youth, to someone whose work sells for £1million a time to Hollywood's A-listers.
And The Sun is the first to bring you the interview.

Black Swan

Once in a while, a film will contain all the elements of a satisfying film- artistry, dance, a little darkness, intrigue, sexuality and two hot girls making out - and NOT be crappy or from the same producers as the Scary Movie saga. Can't wait to see this in December.

Tell Me What's Step 1 And I'll Tell You Step 2.

Kevin Drew (who wrote the song) has said it was a song he wrote fro his wife. All he said about the song was that it's basically about loving the one you're with (wanting to grow old with them) and not wasting time in pointless meaningless relationships nor arguements. Also at a live show and right before the first chords he said this "Love the one your with" His wife also appears in the lover's spit video on the BSS website.

Don't waste time sweating the small stuff arguing. Make some shit slide. Then move on. That's how you start get to do some shit with the one you want to get old with.

BSS never fails to leave me in awe. This song is with Feist.

A Beautiful Translation: Lanvin x H&M

"...H&M [is] going luxury rather than Lanvin is going public."

Lanvin's collection for H&M will be unveiled three weeks before (Nov. 2) the collection hits 200 H&M stores (Nov. 23) worldwide through a "special film" which will be released virally on HM.com.

Alber Elbaz, Lanvin's artistic director speaks on the collaboration.

He is the man behind the monumental trends of today- "ribbon, bows, pearls, raw edges, sumptuous color and metallic embellishment" - just to name a few.

Sixpack France A/W '10

Sixpack France finally releases their much hyped 2010 Autumn/Winter collection, after teasing us with very hipster, clockwise curtain videos such as this one for their Synesthesie collection (a mouthful, I know).

Sixpack France AW10 "SYNESTHESIE" Collection - Teaser Part 2 from Sixpack France on Vimeo.

They've also been virally releasing their lines with Hajime Sorayama (of "Sexy Robot" fame), Grotesk and Robert Crumb, as well as their collaboration with Homecore, "The Orgone Collection."

Needless to say, Sixpack has been tapping all the right talents to get the word out on this wonderfully muted yet inspiring release.

Hit the jump for highlights on all three capsule packs. Much love.

Black Book Design: Escora x Chi "Finer Things"

In Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, we take a journey into the deterioration of one man's body and soul through the blissful sins we all indulge in, sometimes even consider "treats"- alcohol, beauty, wealth, hate, anger, sex, drugs, fame. Mr. Gray was a damned rock star of the 1800's. An artist that was deeply in love with him created a masterpiece portrait of Dorian at the height of his true beauty, physical and spiritual, before he threw himself to be a slave of temptation. Obsessed with his physical beauty, he wondered if he could stay beautiful forever, if there was anything he could trade to never age beyond that moment. As he contemplated this before the finished painting, who knows what truly happens, but after some questionable behavior, Dorian returns to the painting to find it blemished.. but not accidentally.

Long story short, the masterpiece becomes a mirror to his soul, which slowly, day after day, is being mauled by Dorian's pleasure-seeking lifestyle and depicting him as the hideous monster he truly is.

What's the moral of the story?
