I was talking to Tilt last night, and as always he taught me a lot of things. About Graffiti, concepts, the old school and the new school.. art. How you yourself has to push things forward. There is one prevalent topic though that we really agreed upon and laughed about.
For all those internet bombers.
Instead of saying that , what you're really saying is this.

I just found this funny and applicable to the graffiti scene here now. There are two ways to look at this, it's either change your perspective on what you're really doing, or do things the harder way.

I Guess Somebody's Doing Something Right.

"You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world" - John Lennon's Revolution

There are different times in history where in an incident sparks a war. There are sometimes in history where in a signature on a memorandum drops a bomb and gives the world their first glimpse of the power of human creativity as a tool for what could be a man-made apocalypse. But there are some strokes in life where - in a single gesture of the hand accompanied by just a passion for being , leaves an imprint on the planet. Or in this case, people's awareness. It takes time... It takes persistence. It takes real human dedication focused into a certain aspect in life to create even just a tiny snowball. But when this snowball gets bigger just keeps rolling, there is no way in hell you can stop it.

So I guess now, two years into it... KST and PSP the philippines, or at least the immediate media is now taking into consideration what these people have been fighting for. And yes, some may argue that two years is not a very long time, I never said the fight has burned out of them. The fight for the rights to express street - art and graffiti culture is young here in the philippines. The soldiers, fresh and plentiful. But albeit the metaphor of war, there was a light of hope in the shape of an article (one which reminds me of the stories told of the days of TAKI in NY / how the graff scene exploded.) ironically, involving the child of revolutionary parents acknowledges the presence of graffiti and street - art here in the phillipines. In a nutshell, author Alfred A. Yuson writes about NOYNOY Aquino addressing the presence of graffiti. click here : READ THE ARTICLE ON PHILSTAR.COM TO KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.

BEE EYES

Julius Bee Eye Ka! Illustration by chichi

Bee Eyes - Gangstaz Paradize (Live) from beeeyes on Vimeo.

Bee Eyes - Who Does (Live w/ Saab) from beeeyes on Vimeo.

Here's an acoustic version of their song "WHO DOES" with Saab

Conyo (noun)
1. see cunt
2."dude , pare , chong , I just had my yaya elmer's glue my mohawk while riding my horses through my hacienda in ayala alabang dooods. "

PUNK
1. A loud fast moving form of rock music with crude and aggressive effects, popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s

2. An aggressive and violent young criminal

Bee eyes is first and foremost from the Philippines. Second, they are a band. Third, they have a sound that you aren't sick of or haven't even heard of yet. The first time I watched them play, people were shocked with what they were hearing... . It was exciting and raw; it was an experience.

A lot of bands create songs on purposely aimed at making people dance, but Julius (vocals, guitars) , Idris (drums and vocals) and Diego ( bass) achieve what most bands can't....they're good because they're just being themselves. How do they do it? Individually they are different from the rest... Put together, they are an attack to what you know. They're not in it for the fame and glory.. but i say it'll be theirs if they stick to it. They are an attack to your comfort- zone. In the population of the crowd watching with me that night, majority of the people standing up were girls. Plus, they were dancing. Yes suckas , girls were really moving their bee - hinds for these boys. I suggest pogi bands practice some more or eat more rice if you aren't getting the same effect. And take note, these guys have only played a handful of gigs as the Bee eyes. They're song "Who Does" has been remixed by international DJ Spazzkid and they've been recently featured in Transpose Magazine.

If punk rock was 6 feet underground in this country, they have brought it back. These guys are resurrect - ors 'cause they bring back the dead. These boys play with balls out , and their tongue in cheek. Bee eyes sounds like a hungry zombie , standing on a surf - board , hung - over from a night with the beach boys, a bong - hit racing to the brain followed by an exhale and a choke.

They say on their Bee eyes myspace page that they sound like : "conyo punks".
I think it's a spit at a certain aspect of society.. I think it's a spit at pretension. I think they just coined a term. I think you'll all bite it.

These Days.

These days are hard. These days are challenging. These days have been called bad. And these days have even been called apocalyptic. But I believe these days are not for the weak. These days are for the brave. These days are for forward thinkers. These days are for those who demand themselves to kill each and everything that they do. It's not enough to just do it right. You have to fuck it good. It's not enough to fuck it good. Check that remark , Cross it off and eat this. You have to kill it. It's the survival of the fittest yes it is mami and papi. So live with it, or fall - off. It s the purest form of the Darwinian perspective. But these days are the best of times.

It's the time when people become individuals in this vast spider - web spectacle of inter - connected events. Security. What is security? A secured man may be financially settled but he spent his life's goal dedicated to see his future plop down like a Yacht on a puddle. Grandiose but shallow. He sits and waits watching for the tomorrow that never comes. He will never realize until he finally sits back and looks at himself he realizes the prison he has built chasing the all mighty dollar.

If you look at the pages of history and see the people who have shaped the destiny of the world.
They never had security. But they lived rather than just existing. You see a pattern in which it takes commitment to a belief combined with determination results to individual and mass influence. A propaganda? Yes. But a positive one depending on one's beliefs. Where would we be if everybody just wanted security? If everybody just wanted life to a little more different and a little richer? We would see a propaganda that is lead by the bystanders ( by the vast majority) that say life is not worth living, that life has to be lived in just one way. A propaganda that takes away the ambition of the youth and sucks the life out of critical thinking. I call these people hamsters. They go on through life in a treadmill until they become too old and face death as they curse how they existed. They curse because they lacked the real courage to go through life and face the unknown.

A neo human is said to be the next evolution of the human race. In a book by Richard Dawkin
called the God Delusion, he says that the new human thinks in a more abstract manner. A neo human looks at an abstract painting and sees it perceives it as his own, and doesn't just see the picture. It doesn't just see the blot or the hue , it sees and understands the frame in which it is connected to. It does not just see the frame, it sees the wall to where it is attached and it takes in the surroundings.

In these times it's important to be brave. It's important to be loyal and committed, hard - working and lethal. In these times are we ready to evolve in our own pace? In these times we must evolve faster than what nature has had in line for us. These times are the purest form of the Darwinian perspective. These times are the best of times.

Trash Trash Trash.

That's a TREE and that's how high the water was in Marikina. And all of those ornaments are trash.
Down.
More trash x Filter

If there was one thing Bayani Fernando's "fences" did right aside from creating traffic and obstacles for motorists to avoid, It was this. To filter out all the shit / trash from the flood that ran through millions of homes and devastated areas. As you can see, there's an abundant amount of plastic waste and also foliage that was caught up in the once called government fences.. and now, accidental "filters". In my opinion, if these little fuck shits of waste of tax weren't there, it would have taken longer for water to drain.

After seeing the many sights and smells of marikina's atermath, there was one thing very evident; this wasn't just mother nature having a very bad case of dysmenorrhea. This shit was also our fault or our mistake. It was Nature , and our carelessness , ignorance , and lazyness all rolled into one snowball. And now, we see the effects.

I hope the government learns how to dispose trash properly. And I also think we should all take part.

We need to be aware. We need to do something about it. Oh yeah, Stop cutting trees man!

BRAIN DRAIN

Here in Manila, information is hard to come by. Unfortunately, Politics and malls champion this impoverished capitalist city. In cases like these, Manila is like a walking contradiction if you ask me. Once upon a time , tax was raised just to bring in literary books from abroad. This was called : The Great Book Blockade Of 2009. Even though Twilight was too .. well .. lame and boring for my taste; for those who just wanted to seep out of their boxed imaginations and better themselves through experiencing different forms of art. It would not be so easy for them here.

In Manila there is a vast selection of men's magazines that inspire you to appreciate the woman's form but inspire you only enough to spank your monkey. There is also a new stream of gay and lesbo mags on sale and also women's err "sexy man" magazines. To what these magazines instigate, I leave it to them and the readers.

You can go from the most famous bookstore to the newest ones and one can find themselves dismayed by the selection of books from art to biography. In this context, there is honestly nothing really fresh and inspiring.

There is a lack of TASTE. A lack of aggressive cultural awareness from these establishments that the youth now have. Here , there is a bland selection of art books and magazines. Sure there is the rare Juxtapoz and Complex magazine and Nylon in random magazine stores, but come on. We have an influx now of hungry curious youth wanting to know what else is out there while being inspired by their own heritage.

Usually if you do find a gem, it is insanely overpriced.Distributors usually buy the cookie - cutter BEATLES biography or the PABLO PICASSO compilation. These are all well and good, yes, and have their own market but I just feel like a baby chewing on greens. I just suck the juice out and don't swallow. I want to see candy. I want to taste something AWESOME.

I went to
Trilogybotique the other day and was glad to see new books and art compilations from my favorite people. Namely : Shepard Fairey , Upper Playgroud , Tilt , Works by Mike Giant and Kevin Lyons and a lot more. To see these people's works, or at least their books, in this country was something refreshing to me. I don't need to go to Hong-Kong or order online anymore to be inspired. The books I've been looking for are finally here.

And then there is also SPUTNIK! comics. A place where local comic con fans and people who haven't been to Cubao X (where it is located) gravitate to if they are looking for comics. A place where graphic novels and rare graphic related reads can be found out of it's ooze. Literally.

All I'm saying is. I thank them for being different. I thank them for their pallet-es.
