Diamond Eyes

In life there are pieces of music that you add to your experiences and make it a soundtrack. Throughout those "wonder years" there are bits and pieces that you grow up with and do not forget. In whatever context that would apply to , in this post, That would be in a form of a band called Deftones. They have a new album called Diamond Eyes. And although they have grown older now ; They still bring it. Better or harder than White Pony (their old Album) more melodic this time as with Minerva (one of their best songs). And I think the video for Diamond Eyes is just pure awesome. Well done.

Make It Your Own

As you sit there on your mound thinking and pondering of what to do staring at the screen. What are you looking for? Why are you online? Bored? Or is it because you're looking for something to do? Straying away from that something that you need to do? Or are you looking for inspiration in a rectangle shaped modern light box called the screen?

You can't resist longing for something more or better for you huh? Something new... Isn't that something to ponder on. In search of a new horizon. Don't we all long for the better. Maybe the question or the anti - thesis should just actually be ; for something new, something fresh... you look for something existing, something manifested, something solid. Apprieciate that , twist it, play with it, mold the way you like it...and make it your own.

Step back, look at what you have, and because you've made what exists into something that you can call your own with all your effort, it's not actually that you need something new...It should be you seeing things in a perspective better than you did before.

Creativity or prolific - ness does not come from a blank - stare until you go cross -eyed. I think some have lost the sense of taking matters in their own hands. And maybe that's why more people get bored easily. Make something out of nothing or make something new because of you.

As per this song by Drake called Houstalantavegas , a band called SonnyMoon made it into their own and dare i say, this song is now theirs... Therefore, they owned Drake on this one. And they made something fresh and sexy for ears to melt upon.

THE VAEL PROJECT LAUNCH @ BLACKBOOK

What is the Vael Project?

“Vael designs are urbane, cultured and streetwise and indicative of Horn’s perspective on conventional fashion.”

Where function and fashion co-exist in the realm of footwear, Coleman Horn is undoubtedly the deciding creator. Horn typifies a character out of an Ayn Rand novel paired with a piece of Willy Wonka gum – the more you chew the more complex flavors erupt. Horn is 34% urban, 29% edgy, 23% sleek, 18% cosmopolitan with a dash of hip-punk and his shoe designs reflect such. Any who have followed his designing career with Medium would not be surprised to learn that after taking a walk about the globe exploring, tasting, and experiencing he would emerge bearing a love child of sorts. He handcrafted the first creations of Vael in a soddy workshop while holed up at his parent’s homestead on the salty coast of Maine.

Vael footwear is primarily useful to increase the circumference of area traveled by those who wear them (a shoe’s function), sophisticated enough to be classified as timeless, and edgy enough to be worn by those with fashion-forward discernment (the deck shoe transformed by textured canvass fabric). Vael designs are urbane, cultured and streetwise and indicative of Horn’s perspective on conventional fashion.

A shoe that travels well is a shoe that is created by one who is well traveled. And for the worldly man, a shoe fit for function but sleek enough to be worn by the unpretentious fashion forward type could only be the creation of someone who has experienced the grit of life.

In these precarious financial times where judicial decisions are mandatory for most budgets, the addition to any shoe collection should include a Vael shoe. If limited to three pairs – go for a gym shoe, a Geoffrey Rush dress shoe, and by all means, a Vael shoe. You simply cannot go wrong. If nothing else, you will substantially increase your ability to walk greater distances while making a solid statement that you do give a damn.

WHAT IS VAEL?

"VÆL is a premium brand extending the range of mobile societies (Gesellschaft). We engineer and manufacture soft goods for the wandering global creative class. Using top-shelf components like Vibram™ soles and US hides, VÆL delivers unparalleled quality and coveted advances in materials and technology. We undertake this design project with commitment to best practices in human rights and ecological sourcing."

VÆL footwear is designed for men who desire to be seen as iconoclasts. They are not satisfied with the current offerings from CLAE or Creative Rec. They have an understanding of VISVIM and Dior-Homme, but refuse to pay $500 for a pair of sneakers.

They want subtle style cues, while letting the quality of the details in the shoes speak for them. The US-Hide full-grain leathers, the Italian Vibram Soles and European lasts are what set VÆL apart from the current offerings from most of the noise that is coming out of China footwear factories.

VÆL Project is culmination of the vision of the founder and owner, Coleman Horn. After selling his previous brand, M3dium, Coleman began a worldwide search for new inspiration to truly capitalize on the spirit of M3dium. However, this time it was going to be different - All of the difficult lessons that Coleman learned through starting, building, and selling M3dium would be infused with a fresh design doctrine that creatively evolves classic silhouettes. VÆL Project
began to take shape in November 2007 with the official launch of the brand during the PROJECT trade shows that following January .

In order to progress the brand, we have assembled a Board of Advisors that will offer their immense experience in guiding our strategic, operational, and design decisions. We have agreements from the following industry veterans:

  • Shawn Stussy The Godfather of Streetwear with his brand, Stussy.

  • Danny Kwock The founder of Quicksilver and President of Quicksilver Communications

  • Thom McElroy The founder of Volcom & McEroy Communications

  • Mossmo Giannulli The founder of his namesake brand, Mossimo

  • Robert Beauchamp Former Executive Editor of GQ and Executive Fashion Director for Esquire Magazine

"The brand is based on travel in a simple way. Whether it’s walking in a city all day where comfort is an issue, or out at a bar where style is paramount, we have engineered VÆL footwear to maximize all these aspects."

Vael offers true value to a market who is smarter by the bill and who's taste combines both function and class.

BLACK BOOK design is proud to launch VAEL project here in MANILA this coming JUNE 19.
Come on down...see what the future of sneakers are.

Mono - Second Collection

Nixon Marquez and Chi Kotur call it Lux Divina. In their second collection, the duo called MONO have been able to express this theme into their second collection and aptly called each piece's title based on the collection's name. Inspired by the divine and luxurios, as the name suggests MONO's second collection looks to be another sleeper and i'm sure we won't see them for too long, as they fly off the shelves.

RIDERS ON THE STORM

DESTRO

Death row is where you end up after you have been sentenced to death after you rampage off of your violent or emotional impulses.

Destro could be short for destroy.

To destroy is to damage something.

To be able to damage something one must firmly stand for something and be able to express it's
belief in it via exerted effort sometimes combined with centrifugal force.

Riders elicit this firm belief in something as they sift through the roads , the air soothing their faces. It's not that they don't care... but as they ride there is this sense of freedom and rebellious grit sometimes based on leaving everything behind for the thrill of it.

Riders on the storm - are the riders that take action and live it with their eyes wide open through this firm belief as they ride the streets at the most dangerous times where they shall let none pass them by.

KAFE

- - Kafe - -

is made by Karen Ferrer. A strong willed independent woman who is fuelled by her love for fashion , the arts and her daughter. Incidentally, she also won last year's Fashion Institute of the
Philippine's over - all competition and graduation and show. Her RTW line speaks for itself. You be the judge and see it in the store. We got the chilitees wearing one of her pieces the other day!

It's always nice to see artists appreciate different artist's in their different fields.

The plum award Best Collection Award for the Designer of the Year made Karen Ferrer top of her class. She gets an all-expense-paid two-week fashion tour in Paris, France, the den of haute couture. This opportunity will further hone her design aesthetics upon her visits to premier ateliers and global fashion houses.

Director of the FIP and veteran designer-mentor Shanon Pamaong says, “Unlike in any other fashion competition, the Fashion Institute of the Philippines graduation show participants did not just design the garment; they also made their patterns, cut the fabrics and worked closely with sewers; some even assembled the garments meticulously and dealt with all the details and embellishments on point.” - PHILSTAR.COM
