ARKIV EXHIBIT IN VoV

Indonesian artist Arkiv has been painting, illustrating and designing cartoon like figures since 2005. Shortly after finishing his Bachelor degree in Architecture he plunged into the art world citing his love for drawing figures as his inspiration for this change of career path.

I recently met the technically astound and visually appealing artist in his solo show going on this December at Vinyl on Vinyl called; Out Of Nothing. It's happening at The Collective.

If Kaws was for me the premiere pop artist right now.. Arkiv would be the abstracted version of his works.

MANILA SOND VISIONS

Manila Sound is a musical genre based in the Philippines that began in late 1960s Manila and flourished in the early to middle 1970s. It is often looked upon as the "bright side" of the Martial Law era and has influenced all modern genres in the country as the forerunner to OPM

Popularized by a pop rock band called Hotdog with their hits, "Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko" (transliterated, "You Are the Miss Universe Of My Life"), "'Manila'" and "Beh Buti Nga", it was characterized by catchy melodic phrases.[3] Manila Sound also characterized the disco fever in the Philippines by that period. Alternately described as "the marshmallow sound", the Manila Sound ushered a procession of calculated radio hits by groups such as Cinderella, VST & Co., Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society, Florante, Rico J. Puno and the "megastar" of this musical genre, Sharon Cuneta. The Manila Sound's unprecedented and meteoric appeal provided viability to a Philippine recording industry that until then had relied on cover versions and mimicry of foreign hits to entice consumer acceptance. However, inevitably, the formula-addled lyrical bias towards camp humor and parody caused the Manila Sound to devolve into an explicitly theatrical, if not pre-teen, sub-genre as exemplified by Hagibis (a parody of the Village People) and The Boy Friends, until it finally collapsed in the late 1970s under a wave of disco and dance-oriented Hollywood hits from "Saturday Night Fever", "Grease" and "Footloose". The Manila Sound phenomenon gave way to OPM (Original Pilipino Music) that dominated popular, radio-friendly Philippine music for the remainder of the 1990s.

WALL LORDS 2010 RECAP : PEOPLE

As I said on the previous posts around 3pm the bouncer had already informed me that there was an attendance of 1,000 people. As the night went on til' around 9 pm, God only knows how many people were there to experience the whole war - zone. 1,500 population? 2,000 maybe? No matter what number...it doesn't matter.
Everybody knew this was something. As Sinic and Redy, two of the founders of INVASIAN and WALL LORDS said; "The Philippine leg was one of the best so far, the energy and passion of the people are felt and was one that can not be compared. We were surprised about the results for a first time production". Cheers.

WE WERE HOME BASE AND WE ROCKED THE PLACE

ELECTRIC

Around 1 PM everything was set to go into a snowball. But in contrast to what a snowball does, this thing went caneering and growing straight expanding and went straight - up - hill. The lines were increasing length even before gates were open. That black box at the back beside Sundae, That's the BLACKBOOK store, all the organizers and some sponsors had already made it home base and that's where we all rocked our socks off from there. Divided we were but together we stood. The mood inside was only electric and nothing could prepare us all for what was about to come.

+As a smal trivia; around 3 pm the Bouncer by the gate had already told me we've already reached 1,000 atendees.
