TRON and HERMIT CRAB COLONIES

The crew had gone around to see the new TRON movie all together. The only way we would suggest you watch it is in DIGITAL 3d in IMAX. Totaly immersed in it, we left the cinema smiling and inspired. If I was a bit younger this movie would most probably have changed my life. Although, I think it still did quite a bit. See Daft Punk's video for the movie as they scored it after the jump.

WAKE ME UP

When I saw this trailer from my friend Sammyburger it reminded me a lot about Paprika's plot about somebody creating a device that gives man the power to go into a person's mind through their dreams.

Inception is about Cobb, an agent who has a team of people who have access to a technology that allows them to enter people’s minds through their dreams.

I don't know much about this movie... But the folding city got me sold!

WHEN DREAMS JUMP INTO REALITY

Paprika is a sci - fi Japanese animation film based on a novel by Yasutaka TsuTsui which he wrote back in 1993. It is directed by Satoshi Kon who did an excellent and revolutionary job with how the movie looked and ran... I was litterally in awe with the animation too by Madhouse Studio.

Paprika the movie was made and screened around 2006. And is about a research psychologist who uses a device that permits therapists to help patients by entering their dreams.

In the near future, a revolutionary new psychotherapy treatment called dream therapy has been invented. A device called the "DC Mini" allows the user to view people's dreams, exploring their unconscious thoughts. The head of the team working on this treatment, Doctor Atsuko Chiba, begins using the machine illegally to help psychiatric patients outside the research facility, using her alter-ego "Paprika", a persona she assumes in the dream world. This movie's plot and twists are quite confusing ... I ended up watching thrice just to understand it and put the strings together and there were still some holes. But in any case... Paprika is not a movie to be understood , same as how a dream is like. It is more of an experience like a dream rather than something logical to understand , like situations whilst you are awake. Paprika is an experience.

I think it's one of the best anime movies I have EVER seen.

Ma Ma Said There Would Be Days Like This

There are days when you just lock yourself in your room just because the night before, had rendered you useless... A human , with a brain too numb to comprehend. Too numb to articulate. Safe to say you just turned into a Zombie. It may well had been the amount of liquor that you had poured down your esophagus, or it may or may not have been that brownie that a stranger gave you. Heck you probably locked yourself in because you shot up too much of that white powder harvested in Havana , shipped to this island chopped up so much it wasn't even the purest of what you wanted... but you still shot it up. Why? Well, as Jane's Addiction's song says; "just because".

So why lock yourself in? You are locking yourself in to recuperate. To rest. Yes, you can relate. Heck i'm sure a hundred other readers can relate to this situation. But then, to be locked up in your shoes... it's a decision. You're decision to act the way you wanted. You're decision to recuperate.

In the movie OLD BOY (based on a Japanese Manga) which is directed by Park Chan-Wook from South Korea, the main character; Oh Dae Su is locked in a room for 15 years by captors he does not know, with motives he has no idea about. Then, after 15 years, he is given 5 days to find out why he was locked up. He ends up spending those 5 days retaliating against his captors whilst being tangled in a relationship with a mysterious sushi chef.

The plot of the movie in itself is interesting. But what got me was how a human acts when he is just stripped out of everything that he thought secured him and not only that stripped for an unknown period of time. It sounds like an experiment, and in some ways it would be interesting to see it happen.

How would a human react if you took everything from them with out choice, lock them up.. basically just strangle it, abuse it. Then after release it into the city with nothing but questions in it's mind.
I'm sure I would hate it... I wonder how would I decide? How long it would take me to realize. Would I taste things and think about things the same way as I did the day they would capture me? How would I recuperate? And would I retaliate or move on knowing I have a new heart held in my palms.

There are good days and bad days... then there are days that just seem for ever. And then there are days like that of Dae Su's, where in it's all up to you.

Alice In Wonderland

Trailers are one of my favorite things about watching a new movie. And Alice In Wonderland's new trailer was shown as I was wearing 3D glasses sitting n that dark cold theatre the other day. I must say , I've never been so excited to see a movie again.

Yes , before Disney came out with an animated version of Alice In Wonderland, but in this new version... it's much more interactive, it takes you inside the world more so now with the 3D glasses and the CGI which is top notch. When you see the trailer in 3D or at least, if you noticed it here... Johnny Depp's face looks like a hallucination on mushrooms.. his skin moves and exaggerates all his emotions and his eyes constantly dilate. In perspective shots, the levels of depth are played upon and you will really feel as if a prop is being thrown at you.. or in the first part with the Cheshire Cat, it seemed as if his mist is going towards you.

In this film adaptation, Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway plays the white queen and Johnny Depp plays the mad hatter. Pretty damn good casting.

Alice In Wonderland shows March 5th. 2010, I got to catch some more zzz's to make time seem faster before this shows.

James Cameron's AVATAR

You have to see this film. not only do you have to see it, you have to see it in 3D. It was seriously a life changing impact on my visual senses. Avatar made me see colours i did not even knew existed. I don't believe i had ever been happier to see an artificial world stimulated by 3d glasses compared to my first time taking LSD. Actually it was a lot better than LSD. Maybe for some, the combo would be the best thing ever.

At first, I admit to have been skeptical about the whole 3d experience, thinking that the glasses would have been resembling that of the classic red and blue 3d glasses found only in cereal boxes. But no, the glasses themselves were actually quality stuff. Not only that.. It did it's job good. Realizing as how i was at the edge of my seat with my back firmly on the back rest, i looked around me and saw almost everyone in my immediate vicinity with jaws ajar and just in awe.

In Avatar, James Cameron has pulled a Tolkien in this one, creating a whole world deep into detail, backed by scientific research and fact and fused with endless imagination. The result is a mind blowing alien planet of beauty called Pandora, which made me wish it were real just in case , we humans really fuck planet earth and mother nature up. Pandora is inhabited by people called the Na:Vi who are connected literally to their planet. You could feel in the movie that the natives really love their planet...they know the benefits they get with just taking what they need. At the same time they give back by praising their planet as their mother. The Na vi were forever grateful people to nature, and that was very obvious. In terms of their human colonizers, you would see the exact opposite; industrial , greedy , almost on edge from greed. But not all of them.. some still had their heads out of their pockets.

So in line with this, Avatar was well thought of, from the character design , where in basically each character was a stereo of how humans would naturally react to a setting such as Pandora's. The set design (deeply rooted to nature's imagination, and the story was rich , full, and relate - able...actually, very relate- able. The main character Jack Sully was groomed to be somewhat of the observer character (like the audience) in relation to the movie. Initially, curious and excited to explore the horizons of what he was to experience, assumed he was going to get rid of the natives but ultimately gets involved and drawn in to the action and the passion and ends up being the hero.

Yes, Avatar was awesome. Period. There was a movie when I was a child about a logger who was magically transformed into a thumb sized man. He initially wanted to destroy the forest until he fell in love with a fairy and as he wanted to get into the faerie's world, he fell in love with the world as he ended up protecting the land he fell in love with. This movie was Fern Gully. Avatar is a modern rendition of this classic. Avatar reminded me of Fern Gully. Fern Gully on steroids.

Beautiful Losers is a movie about the art revolution of the 90s and how it came to be the movement that people can relate to the most. For all the creative folk out there, this documentary is a must see as it is filled with different philosophies and styles and opinions of creative people that pushed art to a much wider spectrum. Nothing contemporary in here, it's all break - through. That's how it was , and that's how it is. THis movie never fails to inspire the nuts out of me.
