is made by Karen Ferrer. A strong willed independent woman who is fuelled by her love for fashion , the arts and her daughter. Incidentally, she also won last year's Fashion Institute of the
Philippine's over - all competition and graduation and show. Her RTW line speaks for itself. You be the judge and see it in the store. We got the chilitees wearing one of her pieces the other day!

It's always nice to see artists appreciate different artist's in their different fields.









The plum award Best Collection Award for the Designer of the Year made Karen Ferrer top of her class. She gets an all-expense-paid two-week fashion tour in Paris, France, the den of haute couture. This opportunity will further hone her design aesthetics upon her visits to premier ateliers and global fashion houses.

Director of the FIP and veteran designer-mentor Shanon Pamaong says, “Unlike in any other fashion competition, the Fashion Institute of the Philippines graduation show participants did not just design the garment; they also made their patterns, cut the fabrics and worked closely with sewers; some even assembled the garments meticulously and dealt with all the details and embellishments on point.” - PHILSTAR.COM

LOOKING FORWARD - SAGAWAFUJI EYEFRAMES IN STORE

To every discovery there is always a story. So once upon a time I was traveling abroad and was looking for something interesting, something different. I always wear spectacles because i need them and I was sick and tired of the ol' Ray - ban or wayferrer pair that I was using. So i stumbled upon these alternatives in a random street in my travel. This was two years ago.

I got a pair for myself as I've learned that these are hand carved and made in Japan and to see these are very rare. One more thing is that I knew for a fact that there was NOTHING like this back then in the Philippines (until now). Unfortunately, I gave my only pair to my friend for a birthday gift. Mind you, these are real wood frames and not those 'wood - finished plastic' ones. So now that I was able to bring them here again not just for myself but for BLACKBOOK i've decided to not keep them a secret anymore.

SAGAWAFUJI eyeframes are now available in store a pair costs only 4,450php. For it's rarity and it's quality that's worth the price.

These frames would definitely suit and comply to those who are looking something different. As with everything in the store. I actually have a pair right now. See you in store!

WHAT IS THE COLLECTIVE? (It's Where We're At)

What surrounds BLACK BOOK are a group of different stores , personalities and characters. Someone apty called it "THE COLLECTIVE" for some unknown reason... But seriously, Here's a little overview of what surrounds BLACKBOOK inside The Collective / 7274 / Malugay :


WABISABI - A vegetarian ramen house and mini--grocery. I never thought I'd like a meatless sandwich, but now I do. They have several yummy dishes that are super budget friendly. I can get a generous serving of veggie ramen that fills me up and costs less than a meal at McDonalds.

WINGMAN - Smokin' hot wings and beer by the pitcher should be enough, but they've got more to offer. My favorites are the pulled pork tacos and the cajun chicken ceasar salad. Their drink menu expands everytime I go but I'd recommend the strawberry margaritas or sangria. You won't know what hit you.

B-SIDE - The bar you've probably already been to. Starting next week they'll be open at 5pm so you can come by for after work drinks, or try out the famous B-Side burger. Every evening they either have awesome DJs or live bands.

CRAZY EDDIE'S SHIRTS, SLACKS AND WONDER EMPORIUM - They actually don't carry any slacks but they have button ups, hoodies, glasses, bowties and other awesome accessories. If you're lucky, you'll catch someone spinning on the DJ setup in the store.

BLACKBOOK - Graffiti writers, fixed gear bike riders and fashion - centric individuals put together. They've got hard to find spray paint colors (IRONLAK) and spray adaptors including NY FATS AND SKINNIES, fixed gear frames and parts ; from chambray button downs to artist designed tees. They also have hand carved tobacco resin pipes and more under one roof. All inside a box of a store designed after a stealth bomber.

HOMEROOM - A concept store selling mens clothing, shoes, hats and bags. Definitely gotta check it out, even just to see the done up interior. Also worth mentioning, they have the coldest store in The Collective.

VINYL ON VINYL - Vinyl toys and vinyl records. Awesome exterior and interior.

HOCUS - New old bikes. They sell parts, restore vintage bicycles and do screen printing.

RITUAL - The organic sari-sari store. Also serving yummy frozen yogurt daily.

OUTERSPACE - The art gallery.

Fulka - Liberty or Death

Fulka is an apparel brand that got its name from the post-Germanic term for "folk" or a host of warriors. Taking inspiration from the rich heritage of tribes past, it unifies the silent rebellion against those who oppose freedom and liberty in this day and age.

Thus, each piece is constructed with a distinct utilitarian aesthetic and functionality; and made from select fabric and material.

This is where it begins.

POGO - Alice In Wonderland

I heard this song from my friend Jorge and Mano from way back 2009.

It's a mix by Pogo who captures movies such as Alice In Wonderland , Harry Potter and Peter Pan so well you could almost translate the music into the movie itself.

A pure form of gestation and expression .
